An interview with Christina Johnson Life Coach

What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your life?

Changing career paths and industries, without taking the associated cut in title and pay, was a huge challenge for me. I experienced it once when I moved from Education to Human Resources, and again when I transitioned from office to fully remote.

What are your three top tips to overcome the obstacle?

  1. Translate your resume. Use an audience-focused approach and use their language and jargon to spotlight transferable skills, key performance indicators (KPIs), and results.

  2.  Reframe the conversation. It’s not about what you have done in the past, but what you will do for them in the future. Use glowing references to validate your claims.

  3. Get help when you need it. For example, for me, it was an SPHR Certificate, a Bachelor’s evaluation, and friends for support. For you, it could be a University of California, Irvine Customer Experience Certificate, a trade license, or a career coach
