What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your life?

Setting & Maintaining Healthy Boundaries


Many people know what the word “boundaries” means, but they have no idea what they are. 


Boundaries are a way to take care of ourselves. When we understand how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, we can avoid the feelings of resentment, disappointment, and anger that build up when limits have been pushed.


Healthy boundaries can help others understand what we will and will not accept and how we want to be treated.

What are your three top tips to overcome the obstacle?


  1. Be very clear with others when setting boundaries.

Practice saying no when you don’t want to do something. You don’t have to explain yourself or offer an excuse. Simply say “no thank you” or “no I can’t do that” and do not feel a need to apologize.  Keep it short and simple.


2. Understand your priorities.

When you try to please everyone, you deny yourself the opportunity to focus on what you value and what brings you pleasure. Sometimes saying yes to someone else is actually saying no to yourself. Make a list of your priorities and values and compare it to where you spend your time and energy.  You may need to make some adjustments. 


3. Listen to yourself and your intuition – your body will “cue” you.

Our bodies always give us signals when we are in an uncomfortable situation – physically or emotionally. Whatever the cue, honor what your body tells you and take some time to explore & understand your discomfort.
