An interview with Leona Carter Life Coach
What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your life?
My biggest obstacle was learning the importance of building intimacy in my marriage.
What are your three top tips to overcome the obstacle?
To overcome this obstacle, I had to:
- First, pray and sincerely ask God to protect my heart while I fight for my marriage and teach me how to cover my husband in prayer while being covered by God. (This step alone took months before I could move on to the second step)
2. Second, I had to get brutally honest about where I was because I couldn’t fix what I didn’t face. I needed to learn how to communicate my needs as exploratory, not accusatory.
3. Third, I had to release my husband from the expectations I had for him but never communicated. Part of the release was forgiving him and forgiving myself, and letting go of majoring in the minors and trying to keep score.
It wasn’t until I was able to do all the above that I was ready to learn how to date my spouse again. Who we were when we got married had changed over the years; therefore, we had to embrace the change in each other.
