What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your life?

My biggest obstacle is awareness. Being self-aware and emphatic is a recipe for overcompensation and overwhelm. I understand the pains and motivations of other actions and therefore make far too many allowances for them. However, not often making the same allowances for myself. The other hurdle which is the same for everyone and one of my teaching points is Expectation. The expectation is the enemy of peace and presence. Remove expectation from any situation and you just experience it for what it is. Not what you imagined it to be.

What are your three top tips to overcome the obstacle?

  1. Accept your humanness, you are not perfect and neither is anyone else so turn that awareness into acceptance. Accept you won’t always get it right but you did your best and your best looks different on different days.
  2. Forgive, forgive yourself and others for humanness. We are all doing the best we can with the tools we have. It doesn’t mean accepting toxic behaviours but understanding it is the behaviours, not the person. 
  3. Responsibility – take responsibility for where you are. You are not what has happened to you and what has happened to you is not your fault but it is your responsibility to move forward and in every moment breathe and believe. Breathe to pause and reconnect to self. Believe that you are where you are meant to be and that life is happening for you.
