Talk to me about your personal email inboxes because this is why Email Lists Are A Broken Strategy  I would guess that you have more than 1 email address, probably one for signing up for freebies, and likely get more emails a day than you would like!

 

The reason I say that is because this is me, and nearly all of my clients tell me the same thing.

 

Recently I heard a CEO of a business tell someone, please text or WhatsApp me, smoke signals will get to me quicker than emails.

Why Email Lists Are A Broken  Strategy for Coaches

People are overwhelmed by emails and while sending them can still be useful the ability to get clients from them is reducing dramatically.

 

Last year, we got better results from sending postcards via traditional ‘snail’ mail to people than emails and the office joke quickly moved to the effectiveness of smoke signals again!

 

Yet, coaches are still being advised to create huge lists, send tons of emails, and while this could be part of a strategy, we are not finding it to be a significant part of our strategy!  To the point that it is the last thing on our must get done marketing list!

 

At this point in time, I may have rattled a few cages, and some of you may feel like I have challenged a belief that you have!  That’s cool, yet how many emails do you need to send to make a sale, what are your exact metrics on this, and do these meet your expectations?

 

So, if I am brave enough to knock something many hours a week doing, to hopefully generate new business, what can an alternative be?

 

The first thing is anything that involves direct messaging to phones.  There are many options, however SMS and WhatsApp messages seem to work better than anything else.  Now, when I said this the other day people started to get all techy on me…. And for this to work, you need to avoid getting complicated with this.  Put the work in, send messages personally one at a time (about 4 seconds per message sent !) and you will be amazed at the positive outcomes.

 

NEXT.  I have saved the best until last.  It is the oldest way of sharing communication.  It is word of mouth!  That means you are talking to people either face to face or on the phone.  It means creating a coaching experience that is SO LOVEABLE that people can not help but share it with their friends and even complete strangers, because what they get from you is so incredible. 

 

So are emails useful. Maybe at best.  However, creating word of mouth and actually speaking to real people in a caring way will always get better results.
